  1. Memorial Day started during the Civil War as Decoration Day because the graves of dead soldiers were decorated with flowers and medals.

Why does the time you have on the right for the length of the Podcast sometimes go beyond and then the left side and right side start counting up to the end? Usually the Podcast ends when the sides match. Just curious.

Complaints about obesity in our children so the school districts cut gym time. I don't think common sense is used.

As a former teacher, I've found most school boards to be oblivious to what actually goes on. They listen to the administrators and media who in some cases have never been in a classroom teaching. Administrators' salaries in this area have gone out of control.

I thought schools were to give kids a well-rounded education. How can that be when they cut back on art, music, library, and gym? Why shouldn't those interests be offered? Some children might want to have a future in the arts.

School districts don't cut salaries - they take the money in other ways like a larger co-pay or making you buy your own supplies.

I think the excuse that "I don't have a computer" is exactly that: an excuse you can't prove. I volunteer at a food pantry and every client/"poor" person has a cell phone/ipad, etc. I don't believe every kid doesn't have access to a computer or internet in some form.

Parents discipline the teachers, not their children because their children are never at fault.

Science has been downplayed in schools since the 90s. I loved teaching science and the third-grade students loved the hands-on aspect of the subject.
