I taught for 35 years in Pennsylvania as a third-grade teacher. I can't count how many "magic" programs we were forced to put into practice only to have another wonderful one appear 3 years later because the previous one flopped. Norma said she would like to be able to use her specific area of expertise when teaching. That's the same for elementary teachers. We all had areas that we loved to creatively introduce into our programs. You can't do that anymore because every teacher MUST teach the same thing at the same time. This would work if every student developed skills at the same pace. I am a firm believer in creativity in the elementary schools. It exposes students to new things which they may carry into life. There is no magic cure for American schools when you have parents who do not support the teachers and administrators who side with the parents. My best students were those who had parents who worked with me with the good and the bad.
